Preparing for Your Botox Appointment

What You Should Know About Your Botox Appointment

Whether you use Botox to ease the signs of aging or for other medical conditions such as headaches, you should be prepared for your upcoming visits. Our five esteemed dermatology doctors at Dermatology Associates Skin and Cancer Center, located in Panama City, FL, will be available to answer any questions about Botox, the procedure used, and the recovery time needed for your body.

Why Botulinum?

Botox has various uses for different conditions. Derived from botulinum toxin, it works on the nerves to relax muscles and weaken them by blocking nerve conduction of the muscles in question.

Most people use botulinum toxin to decrease wrinkles on the face or neck for a more youthful appearance. Below are the places where this medication commonly works best.

  • Forehead
  • Crow's feet around the eyes
  • Nose
  • Neck
  • Jawline
  • Chin
  • Lips

How To Prepare For Your Appointment?

First, our doctor should have a listing of your current medications to verify that nothing will interact with the treatment. Secondly, if you have certain conditions you can't treat with this medication, such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, weak facial muscularity, any neuromuscular disease, or dropping eyelids.

Our doctors at Dermatology Associates Skin and Cancer Center, located in Panama City, FL, would like to let you know the following about your upcoming appointment.

  • The procedure is outpatient; recovering at home.
  • Anesthesia may be used for discomfort in some areas of injection, such as injection into the bladder to relax spasms.
  • Any pain or uncomfortable feeling is usually minimal at best. If the small, thin needle our doctor uses makes you uncomfortable, they can use a topical numbing agent to reduce discomfort. Everyone's pain level and tolerance are different. While some can bear a bit of discomfort, others can't.

Recovering From Your Procedure

As with some outpatient procedures, you can return to work or your regular lifestyle with a few modifications. After your procedure, our doctors instruct you not to lie down or sit for extended periods. You should stay upright for three to four hours before relaxing.

Don't rub your injection site for twelve hours, even if it itches.

Don't do any extra exertion for 24 hours.

Rest and allow your body to heal from the procedure.

Know that this procedure is only temporary. You will need to schedule follow-up appointments every three to four months.
